The 1930s semis of Linthorpe and Acklam
A lot of Middlesbrough's residential streets, especially around Linthorpe and Acklam, are made up of solid 1930s brick semis with pitched slate or tile roofs and small front gardens. Houses of this age tend to have well-established moss on north-facing roof slopes and gutters that have taken decades of leaf fall from mature street trees. That combination is a classic recipe for blocked downpipes and damp at the wall head if the roof and gutters aren't kept on top of.
Render, brick and driveways
Some of the older brick has been over-rendered over the years, and that render behaves differently to newer k-render, it's usually a sand-and-cement finish that greens up gradually rather than streaking, and it needs a gentler touch to bring back without damaging the surface. Front driveways in this part of town are often smaller, older concrete or block paving that's due a proper clean and re-sand.
Newer estates too
Middlesbrough also has plenty of newer housing on its outskirts, with the render and roofline patterns you'd expect from more recent builds. Wherever your house sits in the town, and whatever age it is, we'll come and have a proper look before quoting. Get in touch for a free quote on roof cleaning, driveways, gutters or garden work.
Mature street trees, more gutter work
Many of Middlesbrough's older residential roads were planted with street trees decades ago, and those trees are now mature enough to drop a substantial amount of leaf litter every autumn. That's good for the streets but hard on gutters and downpipes, which fill up faster here than on newer, more open estates. Keeping on top of gutter clearing is one of the simplest ways to avoid a bigger, more expensive damp problem further down the line.
