Roof cleaning and moss removal across Teesside
We clear moss the right way: scraped off the tiles by hand first, then a biocide treatment applied at low pressure to finish the job at the root. We never pressure wash a roof, and where a roof needs proper reach rather than a ladder, our own cherry picker and MEWP-qualified operators do the job safely.
A roof job we've been doing since 2016
Ray started IGM in Ingleby Barwick back in 2016, and roof cleaning was one of the first jobs on the books. A decade on, it's still one we get called out for most, particularly on the older estates around Stockton and Teesside where north-facing pitches never quite dry out between showers. Moss holds water against the tile, the freeze-thaw cycle over a Teesside winter does the rest, and cracked tile faces follow. Left alone, it sheds into the gutters too, so a roof problem quietly becomes a gutter problem.
Scrape first, then treat, never pressure wash
Our method hasn't changed because it's the correct one. We scrape the moss off by hand, tile by tile, so nothing is forced under a lap or driven into the roof space. Once that's done, we apply a biocide treatment at low pressure that keeps killing spores at the root for months afterwards, so the roof carries on improving long after we've left. What we won't do is pressure wash a roof. It strips the protective granules off the tile and pushes water where it shouldn't go, and we've seen too many roofs shortened by contractors who took the quick route.
Cherry picker access, MEWP-qualified
Some roofs simply can't be worked safely from a ladder or a tower, and that's where our own cherry picker and MEWP-qualified operators come in. It's the same kit and the same qualified team we bring to commercial jobs like the cherry picker work we did on the 1689 building on Finkle Street for Hartburn Roofing, so a tricky three-storey roof or an awkward roofline is nothing new to us. It also means we can get to lead flashing that needs repainting while we're up there, and sort it in the same visit.
What it costs
Every roof is different, so we won't guess a price from the street. Ray comes out, has a proper look at the access, the pitch, and how heavy the moss loading is, and gives you a free, no-obligation written quote before anything starts. No surprises, no hidden extras.
Commercial roofs and landlords
It's not just homeowners who call us. We work with roofing contractors, letting agents and property managers who need a roof cleared before a repair job, or moss dealt with as part of routine building upkeep. Our cherry picker and MEWP-qualified operators mean we can take on commercial roofs at height without scaffolding, which keeps costs down and jobs moving faster than waiting on a scaffold hire.
